Need a better
first impression?
It might be unfair but research shows that better looking
people get better jobs, more promotions at work and
earn a higher income.
Ever thought that your smile could be improved but
that aesthetic dentistry was costly or only used by
actors and tv personalities? At St Leonards
Holistic Dental Care we recommend aesthetic
dentistry for many reasons to people just like you and
I!
Maybe your front tooth has been chipped through a sporting
injury, maybe you are missing a tooth or perhaps your
teeth are slightly discoloured- Using veneers, crowns,
bonding or maybe just tooth whitening, St Leonards
Holistic Dental Care will make you proud to
smile again!
Veneers, usually made from porcelain,
are a thin, semi-translucent shell that is custom made
to fit precisely over your tooth. They are permanently
bonded, held in place by a special resin that attaches
the back of the veneer to the front of the tooth.
Veneers are not always the answer for your particular
needs however they are a great cosmetic alternative
for many dental conditions that affect your front teeth.
Our goal, through the use of veneers, is to restore
your smiles natural beauty.
There are many benefits and advantages to having porcelain
veneers applied to your front teeth.
Only a small amount of natural tooth structure
is removed during the procedure
A healthy, natural look is achieved with little or no
discomfort
Veneers are less expensive than crowns
Veneers are strong, durable and colour-stable
How are veneers different from fillings or
crowns?
A composite resin filling is used when only a small
amount of tooth structure needs replacing or repairing.
A full crown is needed when a tooth has had root canal
treatment or when a substantial amount of the entire
tooth structure has been lost. A porcelain veneer is
suitable when a portion of the front surface of a tooth
needs a ‘face lift’.
How are porcelain veneers created for your
teeth?
After shaping the teeth as required, an impression is
taken. This mould is sent to the laboratory technician
where they will create your veneers. At this stage temporary
veneers are made and fitted to the teeth, although this
is not always necessary, everybody’s teeth are
different and we look at each individual patient to
assess their needs.
At the second appointment, after checking that you are
completely happy with the new look of your smile, the
veneers are bonded to the underlying tooth. It is as
simple as that!
What can you expect from your veneers?
Veneers can last you for years, but it depends entirely
on how well you take care of them. Because veneers are
stronger than simple bonding, they are also more resistant
to stains and chipping however if you do play a contact
sport, we do highly recommend you use a customised mouthguard.
It is important to practice good oral hygiene, also
avoiding bad habits such as nail biting or chewing ice.
Finally, routine examinations and cleanings are essential
for keeping your veneers in good condition.
Look after your veneers and they will last a long time,
looking as good as new.
