Dental Hygienist Cleanings

All our patients are treated as individuals and have different oral health needs, therefore, the hygienist customises treatment plans for your specific needs. From how to clean your teeth to your dietary intake, hygiene is of the utmost importance to help prevent problems rather than treating them many years later.
Depending on the health of your teeth and gums, you may need to visit the hygienist every three, six or twelve months. Oral hygiene visits can help prevent many of the problems that lead to tooth decay and loss, and is important in the early diagnosis and treatment of gum disease. On visiting the dentist and hygienist, the first stage of your consultation will be diagnostic. We take special care to make sure the correct, individual diagnosis is made. You will see that it is not just your teeth and mouth that are being assessed but the medical health of your whole body.

Dental Fillings & Restorations

Dental Fillings - Dental fillings are used to repair minimal tooth fractures, tooth decay, or otherwise damaged surfaces of the teeth. Dental filling materials may be used to even out tooth surfaces for better biting or chewing. In many cases, individuals with enamel loss resulting in tooth sensitivity will notice a significant improvement or complete elimination of sensitivity once the appropriate dental filling material is placed.
After a dental filling there is generally no discomfort, expect some sensitivity to hot or cold in the first few days, that subsides on its own. Care instructions after a filling include oral hygiene measures, eating habits and regular dental visits that will keep your restoration healthy. At St Leonards Holistic Dental Care We DON'T USE DENTAL AMALGAM for reasons explained in our Safe Amalgam Removal Section.

Restorative Dentistry - We offer full mouth reconstruction, full mouth rehabilitation and full mouth restoration. These are terms often used to describe the process of rebuilding or simultaneously restoring all of the teeth in both the upper and lower jaws. Most full mouth reconstructions involve multiple phases and office visits. It is not unreasonable to expect treatment to take 12 months or more, depending on your situation.

Provisional Restorations - Today's natural-looking temporaries or provisional restorations, have undergone radical changes. Provisionals now enable you to "preview" the final result of your smile design or reconstructive treatment. They allow you to make a more informed decision about the size, shape, feel, function and color of your final restorations.
Temporaries are especially important when multiple teeth are to be prepared, or when occlusal (bite) or cosmetic changes are anticipated. It is easier to adjust temporary acrylic resin restorations than to modify final, permanent restorations fabricated from metal, ceramic or metal-ceramic materials.

Night Guards and Custom-fitted Mouthguards

Custom-fitted mouthguards - A mouth guard (mouth protector) is a flexible custom fitted device worn over teeth during athletic and recreational activities to protect them from damage. A good-fitting mouth guard may be especially important if you wear braces, have fixed anterior bridgework or just want to protect your teeth/smile from potential trauma.

The process is extremely straightforward. We will take an impression of your child's teeth which is then sent to the laboratory so the mouthguard can be fabricated. The actual design and construction of the mouthguard will depend on the type of sports your child likes to play. It will be custom designed to offer maximum protection and should be comfortable and well-fitting. It's important to remember to bring the mouthguard with you to every appointment, as our we would want to check it's still fitting properly and is free from damage that could make it less effective.

Night Mouth Guards - If you are grinding your teeth, chances are you won't know it because you're sleeping while you are grinding. Common complaints from grinders are jaw pain, neck pain, shoulder pain and a dull persistent headache.

Pillows Made to Measure

Here at Holistic Dental Care we are always looking for ways to improve your health. While searching for solutions for a better nights sleep, Charlotte met Andrew Macfarlane who is the designer/owner of a company called "Made to Measure Pillows‟.

Andrew travelled the world in search of a pillow that would provide the perfect combination of support and comfort. After testing out numerous materials and styles he decided the only way to achieve this was to take all the knowledge he gained from his search and created a pillow that could be custom made to each individual. Andrew discovered there is actually a ratio between your head and shoulders that when combined with knowing your bed type makes sleeping a restful experience.
Upon learning all this Charlotte purchased a pillow for herself and has been raving about it ever since. She has now become a registered practitioner with their company to be able to provide you with this service.

Charlotte highly recommends "Made to Measure Pillows‟ and suggests you check out their website www.pillowsmtom.com.au and speak with her at your next visit about how a custom made pillow can truly improve the quality of your sleep.

Call us or CONTACT US and book 10 minutes to get measured by Charlotte and we will have your pillow ready within days.
TMD/TMJ Rehabilitation

Temporomandibular Joint Treatment - TMD: Is this your problem? TMD is one part of what is often a bigger problem. TMD is a term that describes the dysfunction of your jaw joints. It is commonly accompanied by problems in the muscles of your face, head or neck. The primary problem may be in the jaw joints alone, but sometimes muscle spasm or a bad bite can complicate the situation. TMD can create a set of symptoms, some of which you may never have associated with your jaw.

Our assessment allows you to discover the underlying cause of your pain. This way you know you are addressing it with the best possible solutions.
